Entrepreneur follows his passion and grows a business making one of a kind art.
When you first meet Jeff Stoneham the first thing you are likely to notice is his wide, infectious smile. The 27-year-old from Beausejour, Manitoba has had success growing his business Jeffery Stoneham’s Creative Planters.
The Early Days
Stoneham began his business knowing he wanted to be an entrepreneur. It took a period of time for research and development, for him to figure out exactly what product he wanted to make.
Stoneham knew he wanted to work with his hands and make something tangible, so he tried a few different ideas before focusing on unique planters, accompanied by artificial succulents.
The end result is customized home decor that makes a perfect accent piece for any home.
When asked what was going through his head as he launched his business, Stoneham admitted he was a combination of scared, happy, nervous and excited at his first craft show.
The interest he got from his first market gave him the feeling he might be able to make it as a viable business.
The Just Watch ME! Video Contest
Going into the 2018-19 Just Watch ME! Video contest, Stoneham had modest expectations. He wanted to show the community what his business was all about and demonstrate a person with a disability can have a business just like everyone else.
“It was quite a bit of fun making the video and editing it,” he said, adding the process of documenting insight into his company, was also a learning process. Whether it was his big smile, passionate words or catchy Cheers theme song, Stoneham advanced to the final four of the Just Watch ME! Video contest, which put him into the final round and public voting.
There was a tremendous amount of support for Stoneham from his home community of Beausejour, as well as further afield. Although voting was tight, he was eventually claimed the winner of the contest, winning $1,000 in cash, updated business cards, a new logo and a spotlight on Jeffery Stoneham’s Creative Planters with news articles and video interviews.
When asked how it felt to be crowned the champion, Stoneham flashed his signature smile, noting it was a good feeling.
The Business Continues To Evolve
Jeffery Stoneham’s Creative Planters continues to evolve each year, based on market demand, current design trends and feedback from Stoneham’s customers.
Facebook is currently the way he tends to gain new clients, as well as by word of mouth and attending craft sales.
His goal for the business is to continue to grow the company and increase his sales each and every year.
Stoneham’s advice to new entrepreneurs is to find something you are passionate about and never give up.
Looking to the future, he intends to expand Jeffery Stoneham’s Creative Planters and increase sales.
